Varsity Boys Tennis Heads to Regionals

The varsity boys and girls tennis teams recently hosted the Class 1A District 8 Tournament at Riverside Park against the 5 other schools in their district: The Benjamin School, John Carroll Catholic High School, Master's Academy of Vero, Melbourne Central Catholic High School, and The Pine School.

The first day of the playoffs on 4/16/24 saw much competitive action on the courts for both teams as the boys tied The Benjamin School for the lead with 10 team points, and the girls remained close to The Benjamin School (10) and Master's Academy of Vero Beach (10) with 6 team points. Advancing to the Day 2 round of the tournament for the Pirates were #1 girls doubles Mia Maldonado/Chandler Higdon, #2 girls doubles Dhanika Perez/Jenessa Kendall, #1 boys singles Justin Hall, #2 boys singles Rushil Sura, #3 boys singles Nicky Colontrelle, #5 boys singles Christopher Porter, #1 boys doubles J. Hall/Seb Hall, and #2 boys doubles Sura/Colontrelle.

After a grueling Day 2 on 4/17/24, the girls team secured a solid 3rd place finish in the tournament, finishing behind Master's Academy of Vero Beach and The Benjamin School. The boys team claimed the 1A District 8 runners-up title with 12 team points to The Benjamin School's 19. Their 2nd place finish has qualified the boys team to compete in the Regional Semifinals.

Colontrelle secured a victory on the courts for the Pirates as the #3 boys singles District winner, and Porter concluded his rounds as the District winner for the #5 boys singles position. For the #1 boys singles, J. Hall finished the rounds as the District runner-up. For #2 boys singles, Sura finished as the District runner-up.
