Saint Edward’s partners with local tutors to assist students from SES and area schools to be successful in their academic settings. It is important for tutors, teachers, students, and parents to understand the type of tutorial support SES views as beneficial. SES strongly supports tutoring that provides skills and strategy acquisition rather than tutoring that focuses on homework completion. Academic coaching that promotes independent growth and development is our first priority. In addition, it is important to keep in mind that a student’s first line of support is always the classroom teacher. Tutorial support should not be considered a substitute for meeting with a teacher or attending help sessions.

Often a student needs further practice developing a skill such as writing, active reading strategies, reading decoding skills, or understanding mathematical concepts and/or procedures. This one-to-one assistance can target and address deficit areas. Tutoring is helpful when a student needs further practice or review in order to apply those concepts independently. SES is pleased to provide a comfortable setting in which this support can occur before, during or after the school day. For more information please call 492-2106.
