On Wednesday, January 29, Mimi and I hosted members of the Benedict Legacy Society at our home. We do this each year as a way of thanking this incredible group of people who have named Saint Edward’s School as a beneficiary in their estate planning.
Planned giving has several benefits to the donor. It can:
Provide lifetime income for you and, if you wish, another beneficiary.
Give you a substantial federal income-tax charitable deduction.
Enable you to turn low-yielding assets into a higher income stream.
Reduce or eliminate taxes on capital gains.
Eliminate or reduce federal estate taxes.
Ultimately provide a meaningful gift to Saint Edward’s School.
This annual gathering is always a special occasion, allowing us to express our deep appreciation for the generosity and foresight of the Benedict Legacy Society members. These individuals have demonstrated their commitment to the future of Saint Edward’s School by ensuring that their legacy will continue to support our students, faculty and programs for generations to come.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all members of the Benedict Legacy Society and invite others to consider joining this distinguished group. Your legacy can make a lasting difference, shaping the future of Saint Edward’s School and the generations of students who will walk through its doors.
About the Benedict Legacy Society:
Established in 2007, the Benedict Legacy Society honors two of Saint Edward's most ardent champions, Nancy and Peter B. Benedict, and recognizes individuals who, in the same philanthropic spirit as the Benedicts, have named the School as a beneficiary in their estate planning.
To qualify as a member of the Benedict Legacy Society, one simply must notify the School that it has been named as a beneficiary within the individual’s will, retirement or life insurance plan, charitable trust or annuity, or any means that conveys future real or personal property rights to the School. This type of giving makes sense for all of us, as it allows one to continue to enjoy the full advantage of the assets earned over a lifetime while still providing generously for the School’s future. In addition to the satisfaction of helping future generations of Saint Edward’s students reap the benefits of the education that you, your children or your grandchildren have enjoyed, you will gain significant income and/or estate tax benefits.
