Educatius Group is proud to announce the Winner of the Winter 2019 Chinese Student Leadership Award

Jianing “Edward” Wei of Beijing, was recently honored for his leadership skills here at school. Twice a year Educatius Group asks our partner high schools in the USA and Canada to nominate an Educatius Group Chinese student who is a remarkable participant in the school community. Schools nominate the students on the basis of their participation in academics, arts, sports, social engagement and leadership.

Once the school nominations are in, our judging panel creates a shortlist of the top 8 student nominees. We share these with our Chinese audience to vote on WeChat for the first round of our judging process. This year, our 8 finalist students received almost 20,000 votes!

We took the top 3 results, and our judging panel made the final decision on the top Chinese student leader. The decision is always very difficult due to the outstanding efforts and achievements of all our students.

Mara Slatterly, Director of International Admissions, nominated Edward with this praise:

“The 11th grade year is sometimes a difficult year to begin a new school, as it is so academically challenging, and many social groups have been formed. Edward has transitioned so smoothly we cannot believe this is his first year at Saint Edward's School. Not only is he performing very well in his academic classes and focused on the SAT and TOEFL, but he was an instrumental member of our Varsity Football Team and is now competing with our Varsity Basketball Team. In addition to his athletic prowess, Edward is also an amazing artist who has enthralled us all with his beautiful artwork. More importantly than all of this, Edward is beloved by students and faculty alike. Coaches and teachers consistently comment that he is such a great addition to the school, the classroom, and the teams. He is polite, responsible and mature, and both the international and local students look to him for calm, understated leadership.”

All our Educatius staff and his host family speak warmly of Edward. He is kind and well-appreciated by all! Edward will win a $1,000 scholarship to continue studying high school in the USA.
