The Contour Line Animal

The sixth grade has been working on creating unique animals using line and color. This method is called contour line drawing or outline drawing. To create a contour line drawing of an animal, students had to draw the entire shape using one continuous line- no picking up the pencil from the paper! Artists use this technique to focus on the form and the shape of whatever they are drawing.

Once students created the shape of their animal, they outlined it with a Sharpie and filled in each section with color. The pieces are reminiscent of a stained glass window and the forms are simple but unique.
