Watercolor Seascapes

Ms. Sherrier (lk)
From Ms. Sherrier, MS/US art teacher: We’re practicing our painting skills in the sixth grade studio. The kids began by looking at photos of the ocean. We discussed how the ocean looks above and below the surface before students selected their reference photos. From there, the kids practiced watercolor techniques like wash, gradient wash, details and, finally, a wash with details. Practicing, experimenting and revising are all key when working with water paint. The final seascapes have areas of high pigment and low pigment as well as wash effects and details. Painting with watercolor can be a challenge, but we learned a lot in the process. *eNews: Click the headline to see more!
