SES Celebrates Black History Month

Samantha Borkovic (lk)
Since 1976, the month of February has been designated as Black History Month to honor the achievements of and significant role Black people have had throughout our history. February was chosen because of the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History annually designates a theme. This year’s theme is The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity which allows us to explore the complexity of family origin stories, the evolution of family culture across the world and the family’s link from past to present. During Black History Month, each division will devote time to this tradition through classroom lessons, chapel services, assemblies, advisory and more. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks as we publish discussions you can have at home to complement the activities at school.
