Chapel Guest Ray Adams

This week in chapel, guest speaker Ray Adams spoke to middle and upper school students about the dangers of drug use. In his presentation, he shared his personal story of losing his son Nolan to drugs in 2005 at the age of nineteen. The only child of Phyllis and Ray, Nolan was a special, talented young man.  He was a student at SES through eighth grade and attended Indian River Charter High School as well (where his father Ray worked for many years in the fine arts department), and his death was an avoidable tragedy that can be learned from. Ray shared research on the negative short-term and long-term effects of drugs on the body, and explained why different drugs can pose life-threatening consequences. He reminded students about the importance of not hesitating to call 911 if a peer experiences a negative reaction related to drugs and/or alcohol.
