Collier Proctor '11

Football

When a coach says “he’s the kind of guy you wish you had 11 of”, as Coach Wachter did, you know you are talking about a special player. Collier Proctor, class of 2011, is that player. He was the quarterback here during his tenure at St. Ed’s and has been described as a great all-around athlete who had as much heart as ability.

In 2010, under his leadership, Collier quarterbacked the Pirates to the SSAC State Championships, winning the game and completing an 11-0 undefeated season. He had a 63% completion rate that season, which led to being named to the All-SSAC and All-Area teams.

Collier took his great work ethic on to Middlebury College, where he shifted from quarterback to wide out. He was a part of the NESCAC championship team in 2013 (and the runners-up in 2012).

Maddy Blakeman '12

Lacrosse

Maddy was a multisport athlete for the Pirates, competing on the volleyball, basketball, girls weightlifting, and lacrosse teams. While she excelled at all sports, lacrosse remains Maddy’s first love. A three-time US Lacrosse High School All-American, this athlete shattered the school’s scoring record three years in a row.

She co-captained her teams both as a junior and a senior and earned First Team All-District and First Team All-League all four years. Maddy was honored with the Rosemary Hinton Award, which is given to the senior female athlete who embodies Rosemary’s passion for sports, competition and participation.

Maddy took her lacrosse career to the next level, playing division one lacrosse at Loyola University in Maryland. A four-year letter winner for the Greyhounds, Maddy helped her team win the Patriot League Championship.

1993 Boys Lacrosse Team

Boys Lacrosse

Led by Coach Andy Scheffer, this team has been described as one of the best in school history. Coach Scheffer’s well-known mantra was “Be the Best” which his team of talented players took to heart when they won the state championship.

Andrew Butz '10

Tennis

After winning the state individual title during his junior year, Andrew went on to top that by going a whopping 19-0 his senior year, winning the individual state title once again.

To cap off this season, Andrew teamed up with Conner Pickering to win the state doubles title that year. Soon after this remarkable season, Andrew was featured in the ever-popular Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd'' section on July 5, 2010.

Andrew was a 5-star recruit and ranked in the top 20 nationally. He went on to star at the University of Florida where he was named SEC Freshman of the Week in January of 2011, later named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and, throughout his career, consistently beat other high-ranked players.

Despite his outstanding individual accomplishments, it is clear that Andrew always put his team first. He noted to TCPalm after receiving player of the year honors for the Treasure Coast that his biggest accomplishment was winning the state doubles tournament with Conner. His coach, Steve Milliman, noted that “he was always thinking about the team and not just himself.”

Junior Nombre '03

Soccer

Junior Nombre’s accolades on the soccer field are abundant. His stellar career at Saint Edward’s School has ranked him among the best to step onto the pitch. Junior’s stellar defense frustrated opponents and led to the praise of opponents' coaches.

During his 11th grade year, Junior was named Regional Player of the Year. Perhaps the highest compliment an athlete can receive is from his own team. Coach Bill Keating noted that Junior’s teammates “often played beyond their true ability because they did not want to let him down considering how hard he worked.”

It was a surprise to no one that Junior went on to a stellar career at Elon College, where he was named co-captain, first-team All-Southern Conference, and Team MVP. Junior even played for a stint in the Premier Development League with the Carolina Dynamo. Also noteworthy, in order to stay in shape for soccer, Junior also turned himself into one of the area's best cross country runners as well, posting several times around 18:00 minutes and helping lead the Pirates to the state meet.

Even after all of these accomplishments, it’s noteworthy that Junior continued to give back to Saint Edward's. Coach Keating looked back fondly on the days during Christmas breaks when Junior would return to practice with the boys, never once letting the players know what he had accomplished.

1989 Football Team

Football

Few teams, if any, in the history of Saint Edwards School did more in one season than the 1989 football team. The dynamic offense put up an average of 38 points per game in the historic season that led them to the District, Regional, and Sectional Titles and, ultimately, the State Championship Game in Daytona Beach. It is more than appropriate for this accomplished group of football players, who fielded the best football team in the history of the school, to be the first team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in school history.

Going 12-1 on the season, opponents had no answer for the ground attack of Chris Bedford, who amassed more than 2,000 yards and 40 touchdowns that season. But as we all know, football is a team sport and this dominance would not have been possible without an absolutely stellar offensive line. A stout defense also kept teams at bay, with most opponents able to muster only a handful of points against the Pirates, not to mention the dedication and commitment of the coaching staff led by Head Coach Howie Decristofaro.

It is important to note that the seniors who were on this team for three years earned an incredible 34-4 win/loss record, resulting in 3 District Championships, 3 Regional Championships, a Sectional Championship as the Best Team in South Florida, and a trip to the State Championship Game. The 1989 football team will forever be remembered for what they accomplished. They played the game of football to near perfection throughout the season and served as a barometer for excellence for all teams, past and present. It is with great pleasure that we induct the 1989 football team as the first team into the Saint Edwards Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2021.

Doug Holowink '79

Football, Basketball, Baseball

Doug came to Saint Edward’s School in the seventh grade and, even as a Middle Schooler, had an immediate impact on the Athletic program. He was a three-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, and baseball.

A pounding fullback and punishing linebacker in football, Doug helped lead the ‘78 Pirates to the then best record since the sport began in 1973. He was twice named Jai Alai Athlete of the Week as well as earning All State honors his senior year. In Basketball, Doug dominated the boards as a power forward, also being named Athlete of the Week, and was a formidable hitter and pitcher in baseball. Doug was voted the MVP of all three sports his senior year and it is no wonder he was named Most Athletic in the Class of ‘79.

After graduating from Saint Edward’s, Doug went on to Yale University where, as a member of the Yale football team, he played on 2 Ivy League Championship teams. After Yale, he married his wife Hillary and they are blessed with 2 children. Currently, they are now very proud grandparents of 4 grandchildren. Both Hillary and Doug are very active in Christian Ministries. Professionally, Doug is the Executive Vice President of the real estate firm CBRE in Manhattan.

This induction is very special in that it is important for the Saint Edward’s Athletic Department to be able to recognize athletes from the early years of interscholastic athletics at Saint Edward’s School when traditions and legacies were first built. Doug definitely is one worthy of such recognition.

Jon Bristow '95

Soccer, Lacrosse

Jon attended Saint Edward’s from 1990-1995. During his Middle School years at St. Edward’s, he played JV football, Middle School soccer, Middle School lacrosse and Varsity football. During his Upper School years, he continued as a three-sport athlete, competing in Varsity football, soccer and lacrosse.

During his varsity years, Jon was a member of the Lacrosse State Championship team of 1993, and the 1995 State Runner-up team. He was named captain of the soccer team during his junior and senior seasons, and he was the lacrosse captain his senior year. Jon was named to the All-District Soccer Team in ’95 and was a member of the USILA All-American Lacrosse Team.

After his high school years, Jon attended Wingate University, where he continued his lacrosse career and was named captain for three years. He received All-Conference: Honorable Mention in 1998, First Team All-Conference in 1999 and was selected Honorable Mention to the preseason All-American Team in ‘99.

Jon has been working in wealth management in the Atlanta area since 2005. Currently, he works at BNY Mellon as a portfolio manager. He married his high school sweetheart, Beth Carstensen, right after graduating from Wingate. Their pride and joy are their 3 dogs; Samba, Lyla, and Nola.

Jay Reardon '97

Football, Baseball, Track

Jay attended Saint Edward’s from 1994-1997. He was a three-sport athlete, playing football, baseball and track. Jay attended The Citadel where has received his B.S. degree in Business Administration in 2001 and an MBA in 2003.

Jay also continued his athletic career as he started 2 years and lettered 3 years playing football. He also excelled at track, where he also earned 3 letters. In addition, Jay was the indoor Southern Conference Champion in the 200m, and a member of the 4x100 Meter Champion team his sophomore year. He also earned All-Southern Track team honors over 6 teams in both indoor and outdoor competition.

Jay is married to Kristin and they have 2 daughters Jordyn and Jaimi. He currently is an area sales manager for Union Home mortgage. Jay enjoys spending time with his family, watching college football and networking.

Beth Weibel Munz '83

Soccer

Beth Weibel Munz moved to Vero Beach from Illinois at the start of her sophomore year. As a new Upper School student, Beth had experience in spring sports, but upon arrival decided to try volleyball and soccer.

She says “soccer requires the perfect combination of finesse and power.” She continues, “My most memorable game was my junior year when Saint Edward's played Vero Beach High School. Of course, we were the underdogs. I scored two goals within the first ten minutes. It was a great game, and through unbelievable teamwork, we managed to win.”

As a result of her performance as a soccer player, she was invited to play Division I soccer for Boston College. She holds nursing and law degrees and lives in Jacksonville with her husband and two children.

Burke Michael-Neely '76

Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Cheerleading

Burke Michael-Neely attended Saint Edward's School from 1969-1976. She played varsity volleyball, soccer and softball throughout her middle and upper school years. She played lacrosse from its inception and was a cheerleader for all of her Upper School years.

After graduation, Burke attended Virginia Intermont College and the University of Texas, where she received an advanced degree in Physical Education for the Handicapped. She returned to Saint Edward's as the girls Physical Education teacher, and coached JV volleyball and cheerleading. Burke is a lifetime Girl Scout and an active member of St. Augustine's Canterbury Episcopal Church.

Gary Weems '75

Football, Basketball

Gary attended Saint Edward's School from 1971-1975. He played on the first-ever Saint Edward's School football team in 1973 as a center on offense and was later nominated as Coach's Athlete of the Year.

Gary also played varsity basketball as a forward. Following graduation from SES, Gary attended Mercer University and Indian River State College. Gary has been married to Lucille for 29 years and they have a terrific 26 year old son, Christopher.

Gary is an active volunteer for Special Olympics and has devoted many years volunteer coaching for youth soccer, swimming and track and field. He is also very active at St. Helen's Church.

Molly Brown Catino '92

Soccer, Volleyball, Softball

Molly Brown Catino was the lead scorer her junior and senior years on the soccer (varsity 6 years) team and led them to an undefeated record in her senior year. She was also a member of two straight district final soccer teams.

She also played volleyball (varsity, 5 years) and softball (varsity 4 years) for the School. She is currently a mortgage lender at First Community Mortgage and is married to Jim Catino. They have two children.

Meredith Lazarus Smith '02

Lacrosse, Soccer

Meredith Lazarus Smith attended Saint Edward's School from 9th through 12th grade and is a graduate of the class of 2002. While at Saint Edward's she distinguished herself in lacrosse and soccer.

Salutatorian of her class, led the Saint Edward's girls lacrosse team to state championships in 1999 and 2000 and was named an All-American her senior season before going on to play at the University of Virginia. She also helped lead the girls soccer team to three district titles and set the program's career scoring record at 186 goals.

Susan Cooke Anderson '99

Swimming

Susan Cooke Anderson attended Saint Edward's School from 3rd through 12th grade and is a graduate of the class of 1999. While at Saint Edward's she distinguished herself in swimming.

Valedictorian of her class, she competed on the varsity swim team for four years and she set numerous pool and school records. She went on to swim for Yale University, where she also set records in the 200 and 400 IMs.

Danny Colontrelle '98

Football, Basketball, Lacrosse

Danny Colontrelle played varsity football, basketball, lacrosse, and baseball at Saint Edward's School and captained the football, basketball, and lacrosse teams in his senior year. In 1996 Danny was named to the All-Area Ist Team for football by the Press Journal and received Honorable Mention for All-State Football that same year.

In 1997 he was named to the All-Area Ist team in football and basketball and received honorable mention, All-State for the second time in football. In 1998 he was named to the All-Area Ist team in basketball and received Honorable Mention for All-State in basketball as well as being named to the All-State lst team in Lacrosse.

Danny signed to play football at West Point and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2002. After serving with the 82nd Field Artillery Regiment in Operation Iraqi Freedom II, and earning a Bronze Star for exceptional, meritorious service, Captain Colontrelle came back to Vero Beach, where he now lives with his wife, Shelley, and son, Dylan, and works in the family business.

Mike Lockwood '79

Football, Soccer, Baseball

Mike Lockwood excelled on the varsity football team, the varsity soccer team and the varsity baseball team. In football he received the Most Improved Player Award in grade 11 and the following year was honored with the Athlete of Distinction Award. Mike went on to obtain a B.S. in Mathematics from Davidson College where he played Division I Soccer for 2 years.

After a knee injury, he coached junior varsity soccer at Davidson for his remaining 2 years and then returned to Saint Edward's to teach Algebra and coach Soccer and Football. He took the 1989 varsity soccer team to the State Semifinals that year and had the pleasure of having his younger brother, Darin '89, as a senior on the team.

Currently the Director of Information Technology for Harris Cotherman Jones Price and Associates, and a parent of a 2007 graduate, Austin, Mike lives in Vero with his wife of twenty years, Deb. For the past twenty years he has run an open gym for volleyball at Saint Edward's. All of the funds collected from the open gym are donated to a scholarship for the children of alumni at Saint Edward's School.

Jim Denmark '76

Football, Soccer, Baseball

James Denmark attended Saint Edward's from fifth through 12th grade and graduated with the class of 1976. He distinguished himself in football, soccer and baseball, captaining the teams in all three sports.

He was named All-Region and All-State in baseball. Jim was the Pirate's quarterback and defensive back in men's varsity football, the goalie for the men's varsity soccer team and pitcher for the men's varsity baseball team.

Jim went on to play on the United States Naval Academy’s soccer team and was the starting goalie freshman year. Jim lives in Vero Beach with his family.

Patty Bailey '76

Volleyball, Soccer, Softball

Patricia Bailey attended Saint Edward's from fifth grade through 12th grade and graduated with the class of 1976. Patricia played varsity volleyball, women’s varsity soccer and varsity softball for four years and captained these teams in her junior and senior years. She also was the student manager for the men's varsity football, baseball and soccer teams and served as President of the Saint Edward's Buccaneers Pep Club in her junior and senior years.

Patricia went on to play first string volleyball at Virginia Intermont College and captained the team for two years. She was president of the Virginia Intermont College Athletic Association in her senior year. Patricia Bailey now lives in Bristol, Connecticut.

Rosemary Sherry '99

Cross Country, Lacrosse

Rosemary Sherry attended Saint Edward's School from kindergarten through 12th grade and is a graduate of the class of 1999. While at Saint Edward's she distinguished herself in cross-country, basketball, and lacrosse.

She was a six-year varsity runner and received the Most Valuable Player award. She was named All-State by the Vero Beach Press Journal and holds the School's 2 and 3-mile cross-country records. Rosemary captained the women's varsity lacrosse team in her junior and senior years and led Saint Edward's to win the first state women's lacrosse championship in 1998. She was selected to participate in Florida's first national lacrosse team.

Rosemary went on to play at Lehigh University where she was honored with the Outstanding Athlete award, selected for First team All-Patriot League and Second-team Mid-Atlantic Region, and was ranked seventh in the nation for caused turnovers per game in 2003. Her team was named the biggest turnaround team in 2003 by Sports Illustrated. Rosemary and her husband now live in New Jersey.

Sal Spallone '96

Golf

Sal Spallone attended Saint Edward's School from sixth through 12th grade and is a graduate of the class of 1996. Sal was part of two Saint Edward's district Championship golf teams in 1995 and 1996 and was the Florida State High School Golf Champion in 1996, his senior year. He is a former American junior golf Association star and went on to play golf at Texas Christian University from 1996 to 2001.

Sal turned pro in 2001, played in his first PGA Tour event in March 2003, and qualified to play in the U.S. golf Association Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 2005. He is now a professional golfer on the nationwide tour where he has competed since 2007 and when not traveling, Sal lives in Vero Beach.

Stephanie Keating '99

Soccer

Stephanie Keating attended Saint Edward's School from fourth through 12th grade and graduated with the class of 1999. She played on the Saint Edward's women's varsity soccer team, women's varsity golf, the varsity softball team and women's varsity lacrosse.

Stephanie was the leading soccer scorer for six straight years on the varsity soccer team beginning with her seventh-grade year. She scored 173 goals, was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award five times, played three years on the All-Star First Team, was given the Coach's Award and was recognized by the Press Journal as well as Channel 12, in addition to being named one of the Top 100 Athletes of the Century in Vero Beach.

Stephanie went on to play soccer for University of Tampa, University of Florida and Louisiana State University. She has played for two Semi-Pro teams, the Western Mass Lady Pioneers and the Vermont Voltage. Stephanie is currently an assistant coach for women's soccer at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire.
