At Saint Edward’s, chorus is where students discover what their voices can do and experience the power of making music together. In Middle School, students build strong vocal technique and music literacy, then put those skills into practice through various types of performances throughout the year. All sixth graders participate in chorus, while seventh and eighth graders who choose to continue are placed in either Concert Choir or Advanced Concert Choir.

In the Upper School, students can continue their musical journey in Concert Choir, performing a repertoire that spans everything from Bach to Bon Jovi. With performances both on campus and throughout the community, students of all experience levels grow as musicians, gain confidence and discover the joy of performing as part of an ensemble.

From the first notes in Lower School to festival performances in the Upper School, Saint Edward’s students grow as confident, skilled musicians in a program designed to challenge and inspire.  It starts in Lower School, where third graders pick up their first instrument and learn the basics of reading music, playing in time and making music together. By fourth and fifth grade, they’re rehearsing in groups and performing in their first concerts, building skills step by step.

In Middle School, band becomes a daily practice, and students start to really stretch – playing more challenging music, performing more often and growing quickly as musicians. In the Upper School, they can join Concert Band or Jazz Band, performing at concerts, festivals and competitions across the region.

Whether students are new to music or seasoned performers, they are encouraged to grow, lead and perform at a high level.

At Saint Edward’s, theatre is built into every stage of a student’s journey on stage, behind the scenes and everywhere in between. In Lower School, students step into class plays and musicals that build confidence, creativity and a love of performing. Alongside events like the Fifth Grade Talent Show, Living Museum, Biography Day and poetry recitations, students quickly feel at home on the stage of the 808-seat Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts.

In Middle School, theatre becomes a regular class where students explore acting, improvisation, writing and technical theatre through hands-on projects. By grades 7 and 8, they choose a path. Acting students focus on character work, scene study and performance. Technical Theatre students design and build costumes, sets, lighting and more.

In the Upper School, both tracks deepen. Actors perform in competitions and staged productions, while technical students train in real production work across lighting, sound and design. Students produce two major shows each year, along with ongoing performance opportunities that keep the stage busy all year long.

Students across all grade levels use visual art to explore ideas, experiment with materials and develop their creative voice. In Lower School, students are introduced to drawing, painting, sculpture, clay, collage and more in a supportive, hands-on environment. They learn to observe, create and talk about art from different cultures and time periods.

In Middle School, students deepen their skills while learning to think critically and solve problems through art. Projects often connect to other academic subjects, helping students see how art intersects with the world around them. They study art history, analyze their own work and the work of peers and continue developing technique across a range of media.

In the Upper School, students are encouraged to take creative risks and develop a personal artistic voice. They work across multiple media, study both historical and contemporary approaches and are challenged to think independently and reflect on their work. Opportunities for recognition through exhibitions and competitions allow students to share their work beyond the classroom and engage with the broader arts community.
