Mike Mersky, Head of School

Mike Mersky has been an independent school professional for over four decades. After graduating from Friends' Central School, Mersky went on to receive a B.S. degree in education from Lock Haven University and a M.S. in education from Saint Joseph's University. After years of teaching, coaching, and holding leadership positions in many outstanding independent schools in the mid-Atlantic, such as Friends’ Central School, Haverford School, Sewickley Academy, and McDonogh School, Mike became the ninth head of school at Lancaster Country Day School for eight years, and then became the seventh head of school at Saint Edward’s School in July, 2009. Under his leadership, the School has enjoyed a reputation for financial vitality and academic rigor that rivals the top independent schools in the country. Mike’s philosophy is simple: life’s lessons are learned from hard work, and high achievement comes from effort, discipline and staying power. He says, “Saint Edward’s students and professional staff are incredibly dedicated to this simple, yet challenging philosophy, and every day I am honored to lead such a committed and devoted school community.”

Jack MacMullan, Associate Head of School, Head of Upper School

Jack MacMullan was introduced to the value of an independent school education in the fourth grade, when his parents moved from Philadelphia to Ohio and enrolled him in Columbus Academy.  After earning his B.A. at the University of Notre Dame in 1991 and J.D. at Villanova University in 1994, Jack clerked for a judge for several years before returning to the independent school world as a mathematics teacher and coach at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Maryland in 1997.  After serving in a variety of roles over an eleven year period, including college counselor, dean of students, head varsity basketball coach, and assistant principal, Jack accepted the position of Upper School Head at Spartanburg Day School in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2008.  After ten years at Spartanburg Day, Jack moved to Vero Beach and assumed his current position at Saint Edward's in the summer of 2018.  He is joined by his wife Maureen and their children: Maisie, Ellie, and Patrick.  Jack strives "to build a community where students are challenged to be their best selves, and yet supported for who they are, each and every day."

Beth Zamerski, Associate Head of School, Finance and Operations

Beth Zamerski began her career in finance at T. Rowe Price in Baltimore, Maryland, where her responsibilities focused on fund accounting and compliance. She joined Saint Edward’s School in the finance department in 2003, and became CFO in July, 2011. Regarding her transition from corporate finance to the Saint Edward’s community, Beth says, “I always keep the School’s mission in mind when working with others to make financial decisions. Everything we do must always come back to support what we promise to deliver in the classroom.”

Keira Murphy, Head of Middle School

Keira Murphy “gets” the middle school mind. She holds a master’s degree in education and since 1993 has held numerous leadership positions with the independent school environment. Prior to joining Saint Edward’s School she was head of the middle school at Louisville Collegiate School, where she was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the MS, from faculty recruitment and hiring to teaching classes to stay in touch with the students and teachers. One of her favorite student projects is helping them to map their DNA so they gain a deeper understanding of their family roots. She says, “My goal is to create an environment where teachers can teach to their passions and students can learn to their greatest potential without either group worrying about the daily business operations of an independent school.”

Barbara Mohler, Head of Lower School

For over 40 years, young students have benefited from Barbara Mohler’s love of children and her gifts of leadership. Her teaching career began in Miramar, Florida, where she was chair of the fifth grade; she later became a teacher at Gifford Middle School, where she was a team leader. She came to Saint Edward’s School in 1982 and was hired as a kindergarten teacher, and went on to become a department chair, english department coordinator, and eventually Associate Head of the Lower School. She has held the position of Head of the Lower School since 2007. Over the last 33 years, Barbara has created an environment based on “a love for children that ensures a safe and secure environment where learning can take place with the greatest amount of pleasure.”

Monica Jennings, Director of Marketing/Major Gifts Officer

Monica Murphy Jennings began her career in broadcasting, booking satellite feeds for international television news bureaus.  She coordinated live shots from various locations on Capitol Hill and the White House and eventually became a remote and studio producer for in-house clients.  She was recruited to Medialink, where she was in charge of live events and revenue development for the Washington Bureau. In a decade with the company, her responsibilities expanded into management of the entire domestic sales and marketing division, as well as consulted with international broadcast partners.  After moving to Florida, she became a freelance writer for media-related websites and local publications. She returned to broadcasting briefly before joining Saint Edward’s School as marketing director. She is responsible for all earned, paid, and owned media for the School, and has expanded those responsibilities to include major gifts cultivation. She is married to Charlie Jennings and together they have two children enrolled at Saint Edward's School.

Kathy Savage, Director of Development/Major Gifts Officer

Kathy Savage joined Saint Edward’s School in 1996 and is currently the Director of Development.  Kathy truly believes the gift of education is the finest gift you can give to a child and finds great joy in raising money in support of this gift.  She credits her ability to cultivate and nurture relationships as a key factor to her success. She says, “I have a deep commitment to helping others see their potential, whether it’s a donor who is considering supporting quality education, or a member of my own team. I have been very blessed with some wonderful relationships, and I enjoy watching them grow and develop over time.”

Mara Slattery, Director of Admission

Mara Slattery has dedicated her career to educating children. Starting as a teacher, she expanded her roles to include leadership positions in curriculum development and administration. Mara now manages the Admissions Department at Saint Edward’s School, where she guides families in make the best decisions for their child’s education.
