60+ Years Inspiring Students
Saint Edward’s School was founded in 1965 by a group of Vero Beach parents who wanted a strong college-preparatory education for their children. At the time, families seeking this level of education had to send their children to boarding schools in the northeast.
With guidance from Rev. Hunter Wyatt-Brown and local leader John Morrison, the school opened its doors on September 22, 1965, welcoming 31 students in grades five through eight, beginning a lasting tradition of academic excellence and community in Indian River County.
The original Upper School included six classrooms, a lab, library, and main office.
Valedictorian Hugh Russell addresses Saint Edward’s first graduating class in 1974.
Dick and R.L. Neill generously donate the school’s first bus in 1966.
Saint Edward’s earned full FCIS accreditation in 1970 – an impressive feat for a five-year-old school.
Churchwomen donate a billboard marking the school’s original Indian River Shores site.

Since 1973, Homecoming has united Saint Edward’s alumni, students, and families in celebration and school spirit.
Since 2001, Senior Buddies pairs seniors with first graders for meaningful bonding activities throughout the school year.
Grandparents Day, celebrated since 1989, honors the special bond between students and their grandparents.
ABC (Anything But Cars) Day is a decades-long tradition that marks seniors’ final day of school. It involves sporting their college shirts, parading in creative vehicles and super-soaking the school community in celebration.
