Books Clubs!

Second grade has launched Book Clubs for our final bend of Unit 3 in Reader's Workshop! This provides a wonderful opportunity to practice speaking and active listening while applying comprehension skills they've learned for reading longer fantasy fiction. In a book club, students are assigned a role, such as "discussion director," "character captain" or "word wizard," to complete after each chapter. Then, they meet to discuss what they read, using their roles to guide the discussion, allowing for intentional conversations and encouraging elaboration on each other's ideas.
