Varsity Girls Basketball Runners-Up at SSAC Tourney

The varsity girls basketball team traveled to the Winter Haven Fieldhouse in Winter Haven recently to compete in the Class AA Sunshine State Athletic Conference State Championship.

On 1/22/21, the Lady Pirates took on Winthrop College Prep Academy for the semi-final game. The girls very quickly broke out in a big lead, which their opponents answered by fighting hard to tie the game. The Lady Pirates rallied back and overwhelmed their challengers on the court, ultimately defeating the Lady Spartans 26-18.

Dominating the scoreboard in the semi-finals for the Lady Pirates were Raina Duggal and Dhanika Perez with 10 points each. Also adding to their team's victory were Karis Crookshank (2 points), Maria Hawkins (2 points), Gaby Collazo (1 point) and Chase Nelson (1 point).

For the SSAC Championship finals on 1/23/21 at Winter Haven Fieldhouse, the Lady Pirates faced Faith Christian Academy for the state title. The Lady Pirates put forth a gallant effort and fought tenaciously on the court until the end, but fell to the Lady Lions 15-39. The Lady Pirates were crowned the runners up of the Class AA division of the tournament.

Leading the charge for the Lady Pirates in the finals was Duggal with 9 points.  Teammates Perez (4 points) and Nelson (2 points) also contributed points for the Lady Pirate team.

Next game is at home on 1/27/21 versus Port Saint Lucie High School, starting at 5:30 PM.
