Becker Pool Update

I am happy to report that the Becker Pool expansion and renovation project will officially begin next week. We finally received our State of Florida Commercial Pool Permit. The Indian River County (IRC) Building Department should issue a final approval shortly. The final approval from IRC will not prevent us from beginning demolition next week.

There will be some disruptions to campus life as a result of this project. One disruption will be the entrance to athletic events at Michael J. Mersky Field. At some point soon, all spectators will need to walk to the west side of the outdoor basketball court and enter the stadium near the visitor side of the bleachers. The normal entrance will now be the construction road where the heavy equipment will enter and exit the construction site.

Thank you to the many donors who generously gave to this project. Because of inflation and some added challenges along the way, the project is more expensive than originally planned. We are still actively pursuing additional donations for this project. If you are interested in adding to your gift or would like to give to the Becker Pool project, please contact Kathy Savage at ksavage@steds.org, me at shirstein@steds.org or call me at (772)492-2101.

The current timeline for opening our new pool is August, in time for the new school year. I am convinced you will all be very pleased and proud of the final product. This facility will be state-of-the-art in every sense of the word and will immediately have an impact on campus life.

Finally, I cannot thank Jason Fykes enough for his leadership and expertise in managing this massive construction project. If you happen to see Jason around campus, please thank him for his dedication and commitment.

Have a great weekend, and see you around campus!
