Varsity Girls Lacrosse Overcomes Early Deficit to Defeat the Crusaders

The varsity girls lacrosse team traveled to West Palm Beach on 3/26/24 to take on Cardinal Newman High School. The Crusaders finished up the first quarter leading the Pirates 6-1, but the unwavering Pirate team never faltered in their determination on the field. The Pirates got down to business in the 2nd quarter and chipped away at the Crusader lead, scoring 7 consecutive goals to tie the game 8-8 before the end of the half. The Crusaders grabbed a last-minute goal at the end of the 2nd quarter to send the game 9-8 into halftime. In the 2nd half, Margaret Fykes tied up the score again at 14-14, and teammate Lily O'Brien's 4th quarter goal brought the Pirates' first lead of the night with 2:33 remaining. The Pirates skillfully held their lead over the Crusaders through the end of regulation to secure the 15-14 win and improve their season record to 8-2.

Caitlin Moscrip ensured smooth sailing for the Pirate team with 6 draw controls and 5 goals. Helping lead the victory charge for the Pirates were O'Brien with 3 goals and 1 assist, Grace Fykes with 3 goals, and M. Fykes with 2 goals. Also nabbing goals for the Pirate team were Mary Kathryn Watson and Nicollette Kennedy with 1 goal apiece. The defensive team of Madeline Richards, Leah Chin, Bebe Busch-Dunford, Kennedy, Avery Orzechowski, and Charlie Cappelen made many vital plays against the Crusaders. In goal, Maddie Moscrip made 15 saves and only allowed 5 points in the 2nd half for the Pirate team.
 
Next game is at home on 3/28/24 versus South Fork High School, starting at 5:00 PM on the Michael J. Mersky Field.
