Varsity Girls Basketball Finishes 3rd in SSAA Tournament

The varsity girls basketball team recently traveled to the AdventHealth Fieldhouse & Conference Center in Winter Haven to take part in the SSAA Class 2A Tournament. On 1/16/26, the Pirates went up against Out-of-Door Academy in the Playoffs. The Pirates were down 21-28 to the Thunder by halftime, but roared back in the 2nd half, outscoring their opponents by 7 points to tie the game going into the 4th quarter. The thrilling game saw the Pirates narrowly fall to the Thunder 36-40.
 
Putting up points on the scoreboard for the Pirates were Amajyn Cannon, 13 points; Shaniya Bryant, 9; Halle Grella, 9; Sloane Weber, 2; Savannah Shambo, 2; and Tirzah Boulding, 1.

The Pirates then faced Halifax Academy on 1/17/26 in the consolation bracket. Despite falling behind early, the undeterred Pirates stormed back to tie the game at halftime. Continuing that momentum in the 3rd quarter, the team outscored their opponents 16-4. The Pirates finished the tournament strong, beating the Knights 39-30.
 
Grella led the Pirates in their advance to victory with 15 points, followed closely by Cannon with 12 points. Bryant netted 7 points in the successful afternoon, and teammates Nahlia Hebig and Shambo each brought in 2 points. Adding 1 point toward the win was Weber.
 
Next game is away on 1/20/26 at South Fork High School in Stuart, starting at 6:00 PM.
