Counselor Connections: Understanding Youth Substance Use

Shelley Stuart, Director of Community Services at Thrive IRC, will lead an interactive presentation titled Hidden in Plain Sight. This session explores current trends in youth substance use and highlights items and behaviors that may indicate experimentation or curiosity. The presentation is designed to help parents, faculty and staff better recognize potential warning signs. Time will be provided for questions and discussion following the presentation.

About Shelley Stuart

Shelley Stuart is the Director of Community Services at Thrive IRC. She has worked in public health and prevention since 2006, holding leadership roles in New Jersey with the Center for Prevention and Counseling, Children’s Aid and Family Services, and overseeing countywide initiatives on school health and drug-free communities. Most recently, she worked in Palm Beach County managing sub-grantees for the Overdose Data to Action grant at the Health Council of Southeast Florida.

Shelley relocated to Indian River County in 2022 and joined Thrive IRC. She holds a degree in Public Health from William Paterson University and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. A Massachusetts native, Shelley enjoys traveling and spending time with her son.
