Sense-ational Nature Walk!

Shelby Fontana
First-grade students went on a nature walk to kick off their unit on exploring the five senses and how they help us understand the world around us. As they moved through their environment, they observed colorful flowers and tall trees, listened for birds chirping and stopped to notice the different smells in the air. To add even more fun to their learning, students became “mystery taste testers!” With big smiles and eyes closed tight, they followed one cardinal rule: “Don’t Peek!” Using only their sense of taste and smell, they tried to guess the mystery candy. Ultimately, students discovered that both living and nonliving things can be experienced through the senses, helping them better connect with their surroundings.
