Middle School

Welcome to the Middle School Experience at SES

With just 160 students in grades 6–8, Saint Edward’s is small enough for every child to be seen and inspired — and big enough for bold ideas to take flight.

Our program provides a strong foundation in traditional academics, while nurturing the independence, confidence and character that prepare students for success in the Upper School and beyond.

Middle school students learn from expert faculty who understand that early adolescence is a time of rapid transformation. They meet students where they are, helping them discover who they are and what they’re capable of becoming.

Cultivating Thinkers

SES middle school students dive into ideas headfirst by asking questions, debating perspectives and connecting concepts in ways that matter. Small class sizes and Academic Learning Lab access help ensure that every student is equipped to excel.

Harkness discussions in the classroom sharpen listening and reasoning, while the Honors track challenges those ready to push further. All eighth graders complete a capstone multimedia presentation to reflect on and celebrate their middle school journey.

Cultivating Leaders

Leadership at Saint Edward’s isn’t about titles — it’s about influence, responsibility and respect. Through service projects, Chapels, class trips, and the eighth-grade capstone trip to Washington, D.C., Middle School students learn how to collaborate, navigate complex situations and demonstrate integrity.

Eighth graders take a Character Education course and begin meeting with College Counseling to explore interests and goals, laying the foundation for a successful transition to the Upper School, where they can continue to mature as leaders and learners.

Cultivating Problem Solvers

Middle school is when students turn ideas into action. They tackle coding challenges, math applications and environmental initiatives, applying knowledge in meaningful ways. Athletics and the arts push them to think on their feet, adapt and innovate — individually and together.

Seeing their ideas come to life helps students understand that they can make a difference — in their school, community, and world.

Parent of current sixth grade student

Middle School presents its own new challenges for parents, but from the moment we stepped on campus at Saint Edward’s, we were confident that our family made the right choice.

His teachers describe our son as “respectful in class” and “delightful”, and we have seen solid strides in his writing skills and other academic pursuits. He has a mixed, fun group of friends, and we’re hearing from coaches that he’s putting himself out there with new athletic skills while demonstrating ideal sportsmanship.

As a parent, it’s a gift to have a tween who is excited to go to school in the morning, and this experience is better than any of us could have predicted.

Your Child’s Journey Matters

At Saint Edward’s Middle School, we guide students — and parents — through these formative years.

Together, we help them grow into thinkers, leaders, and problem solvers who are ready to take on what comes next.
