Varsity Girls Lacrosse Soars Over Eagles

On 3/7/24, the varsity girls lacrosse team hosted Pope John Paul II High School on the Michael J. Mersky in their last game before Spring Break. The Pirates, hungry for the win, never faltered in their lead and downed the Eagles in the 17-8 victory. The Pirates boast a 5-2 record for the regular season.

Teammates Aerin Russell and CJ Fykes were unstoppable on the field as they each recorded 4 goals and 1 assist. C. Fykes also dominated on the draw circle, either controlling the draw herself or directing it to a teammate on the circle well over 70% of the time. Caitlin Moscrip netted 3 goals for the Pirate team, and Margaret Fykes recorded 2. Mary Kathryn Watson showed great hustle and teamwork on the field, contributing 1 goal and 2 assists; and Lily O'Brien tallied 1 goal and 1 assist. Adding 1 goal apiece for the Pirates were Grace Fykes and Kelly Lynch, and Carrington Brown provided 1 assist.

The starting defense of Madeline Richards, Leah Chin, Avery Orzechowski, and M. Fykes, alongside Maddie Moscrip in goal, combined to produce enough forced turnovers and ground balls to allow only 4 opposing goals in the first half. Most impressive was their nearly 6-minute continuous defensive stand in the 3rd quarter, allowing only one goal in that period. M. Moscrip finished the night with 9 saves for a superb 53% save rate.

Next game is at home on 3/20/24 versus Jensen Beach High School, starting at 6:00 PM on the Michael J. Mersky Field.
