Close One for Varsity Volleyball in 5-Set Thriller
Varsity girls volleyball went head-to-head with St. Lucie West Centennial High School on 9/10/25 in the Gonzalez-Lobo Activities Center. The Pirates stunned the Eagles in the first 2 sets, collecting 25-22 and 25-12 victories. The Eagles fought back with a vengeance, however, claiming the next 2 sets, 20-25 and 22-25, over the Pirates. The matchup came down to the final 5th set, with the Pirates just narrowly falling to their opponents 13-15. Grace Fykes kept the Pirates in the game with her 34 digs, 3 assists, and 6 aces, and Margaret Fykes proved vital on the court with 43 assists, 4 aces, 1 kill, 11 digs, and 3 blocks. Grace Clemente, who tallied 1 ace and 12 digs, led the team in kills with 15, followed closely by teammate Nevin Waddell with 14 kills, 5 aces, and 13 digs. Makena Rodriguez contributed 13 kills, 4 aces, and 21 digs in the Pirates' effort.
