Varsity Track & Field Opens Regular Season Setting New School & Personal Records
The boys and girls varsity track and field teams opened their regular season at the Viera Invitational Meet on 2/20/26 at Viera High School in Melbourne. Out of the 12 competing teams, the girls team finished in 5th place overall, and the boys team placed 9th. The Pirates concluded the successful day, setting 3 new school records and hitting 20 new personal records.
In girls track events, SophieCooper clinched a 3rd place finish in the 1600m at 5:58.77 and secured a 5th place finish in the 800m at 2:39.2, both new personal best times in these events. In the 400 Hurdles, Cadence Callaghan finished in 5th place with 1:20.09, and Nahlia Hebig placed 6th at 1:22.58. Hebig also set a new personal record in the 1600m with her 6th place finish time of 6:16.43. Amajyn Cannon placed 8th in the 100 Hurdles (20.87). In the 4x100 relay, the relay team of A. Cannon, Rosi Neumann, Baylin Bischoff, and Kayla Jenue captured a 2nd place finish at 59.39. In girls field events, Mia Perez broke her own school record in Javelin with her 30.59m throw to capture 2nd place in the event. Perez also secured a 3rd place in the Discus with her throw of 25.69m. Stella Morris claimed 4th place in Javelin with her personal record 26.60m throw. Hebig placed 6th in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.45m.
In boys track events, Reef Blackman broke a school record in his very first 400 Hurdles event to secure a 2nd place finish with his time of 1:06.27. Jack Curley claimed 2nd place victories in both the 800m (2:04.68) and the 1600m (4:36.11). Jamin Dunham placed 8th in the 1600m at 5:10.04. The 4x100m team of Daniel Ciceron, Jayzere Cannon, Trip Williams, and Cody Simmonds broke the previously held school record for the event with their finish time of 49.20. In boys field events, Matthew Cocks secured a 4th place finish in Discus with his 31.07m throw, a personal best. Nicholas Rummel finished in 8th place in the Triple Jump with 9.70m.
Next meet is away on 2/27/26 at the Vero Beach High School Meet #1 in Vero Beach, starting at 3:45 PM.
