Vero Beach's Last Chance Meet Gives Varsity Track & Field Opportunity to Shine
On 4/10/26, the varsity track and field team took part in their final regular season event, competing in the Last Chance Meet held by Vero Beach High School in Vero Beach. The successful night for the Pirates saw a majority of the team officially qualifying for the upcoming District Tournament. In a large sea of competitors, the girls team placed 4th overall out of 17 teams, and the boys team placed 8th overall out of 16 teams.
In girls track events, Stephanie Storts won the gold in the 800m with 2:36.35. The 3200m race saw thrilling Pirate action with Nahlia Hebig finishing in 1st place with a personal best time of 13:29.94, followed closely by teammate Jacquelyn Perrin in 2nd place with 13:30.32. Finishing 4th and 5th place respectively in the 3200m were Baylin Bischoff (14:38.29) and Emma Ramsay (14:50.07). Cadence Callaghan finished in 7th place in the 800m at 2:48.12 and in 7th place in the 1600m with 6:11.28, a new personal best. In the 400 Hurdles, Amajyn Cannon placed 8th to set a new personal record time of 1:16.94. In relay events, the 4x400 Relay team of Callaghan, Perrin, Jaiya Hebig, and Cannon took a 4th place finish with 4:50.36. In girls field events, Stella Morris secured a 4th place finish in Javelin with her 23.03m throw. Cannon improved her own previously set High Jump school record with her 5th place finish at 1.32m.
In boys track events, the Pirates dominated the 3200m race. Jack Curley captured the gold medal in the event with his 10:34.68 finish, followed by Jamin Dunham, who secured the silver medal with 11:00.51, and Chris Perrin, who crossed soon after with his 11:00.77 3rd place finish to set a new personal record. Rounding out the top finishes in the 3200m was Cam Perrin in 5th place with 11:10.66. In field events, Cody Simmonds finished 6th in the High Jump with his 1.67m mark.
Next meet is the Class 1A District 13 Tournament on 4/18/26, starting at 8:00 AM at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens.
