School & Personal Records Set for Varsity Track & Field at Friday Night Spikes #1

Having their previous Vero Beach's Friday Night Spikes #1 meet attempts cut short on 2/27/26, varsity track and field returned to Vero Beach High School on 3/18/26 for the continuation of events. Both the boys and girls team secured a solid 3rd place overall finish out of 9 teams for the competition.

For the boys team, Matthew Cocks captured the headline in field events with his silver medal effort in the Javelin, throwing a personal best of 35.06m. Cocks also broke the Pirate Shot Put school record with a 10.71m mark to secure a 5th place finish. Rex Herrman finished 6th in Shot Put with 9.37m, and Kaan Mimaroglu finished in 8th in that event with 6.32m. Reef Blackman placed 8th in Javelin with his 25.00m throw. In track events, the Pirates saw top finishes in the 1600m from Chris Perrin (5th place at 5:15.88, a personal record) and Cam Perrin (6th place at 5:19.80) as well as in the 3200m with Ch. Perrin placing 4th (11:23.19, a personal record), Ca. Perrin placing 5th (11:23.89), and Mimaroglu finishing 6th (14:50.04). Jamin Dunham finished in 7th place in the 800m at 2:20.99.  In the 400 Hurdles, Blackman recorded a solid 3rd place finish at 1:05.17, and teammate Trey Donhoe finished the event in 5th with 1:18.16. In relay events, the 4x400 Relay team of Blackman, Donohoe, Ian Wallace, and Trip Williams finished in 4th place at 4:20.08. The 4x800 Relay team, consisting of Blackman, Donohoe, Ian Wallace, and Trip Williams, placed 6th with 11:17.64.

For the girls team, Mia Perez proved unstoppable in field events, stunning the competition with her 1st place Discus throw of 27.37m and 1st place Javelin mark of 29.43m. Stella Morris claimed the silver medal in Javelin with her personal best 22.19m throw and placed 6th in Discus with her 17.78m mark, a new personal record. Tirzah Boulding finished 6th in Javelin at 19.41m. In track events, Jacqueline Perrin was crowned the gold medal winner in both the 800m with 2:30.74 and in the 1600m with 5:32.25. Also in the 1600m, Nahlia Hebig finished the event in 3rd place with a personal best of 6:12.32, Cadence Callaghan finished in 6th place with 6:15.38, and Sophie Cooper finished in 7th place with 6:23.27. For the 3200m race, N. Hebig placed 3rd with a peronal best 13:38.93, and teammate Emma Ramsay placed 4th with 14:10.00. Jaiya Hebig finished the 800m in 8th place at 3:02.80 to set a personal record. In 400 Hurdles, Callaghan placed 4th with 1:23.64, and Amajyn Cannon placed 7th in the event with 1:29.78 to set a new personal best time. In relay events, the 4x100 Relay team of Cannon, Rosi Neumann, Perez, Kayla Jeune won the event at 58.00. The Pirates fielded 2 teams for the 4x400 Relay with the team of Callaghan, Cannon, Stephanie Storts, and J. Perrin placing 3rd with 4:53.54, and the team of Baylin Bischoff, Frankie Hall, Julianna Neimi, and Savannah Shambo placing 4th with 5:27.12. Making up the 4x800 Relay team, Callaghan, Storts, Cooper, and J. Perrin finished in 4th place with 11:16.34.
