Research in Action: Fifth Grade Nonfiction Unit

Carly McAuliffe
Our fifth graders recently wrapped up an exciting nonfiction unit that we have been working on for several weeks. Students selected a nonfiction book based on their interests, carefully read and analyzed the text, and completed detailed research notes to deepen their understanding of their topics. As a culminating project, students used their research to create their own original nonfiction books. From organizing information into chapters to adding text features such as headings, diagrams and captions, they worked hard to apply the skills we have been practicing in class. We are so proud of their dedication, creativity and growth as readers, researchers and authors!
