The Fine Arts Department at Saint Edward’s School inspires the creative spirit through practice and performance. We foster, encourage, and guide artistic expression through experiential learning, culminating in professional level presentations. For us, the process is just as important as the performance. Students may choose to participate in the Visual Arts, the Performing Arts, or both.
The Visual Arts curriculum encourages students to visually express themselves in two and three dimensional art while using a variety of techniques, tools and materials to convey ideas and feelings. The creation of art consists of drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture and clay. Students will learn ways to appreciate and look at art and they will work on projects which correlate with the curriculum of the core academic areas, allowing for cross-disciplinary learning. The study of art history and artists will also be included through research and discussion. Throughout the year, students will have opportunities for recognition and publication by entering art contests and exhibiting artworks throughout the community.
The Performing Arts include Drama, Technical Theatre, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, and Music Technology. Students are expected to perform individually and expressively within the framework of an ensemble while staying true to historical perspective and stylistic interpretation. Culminating activities include concerts, musicals, plays, monologues, and multimedia presentations. Students are encouraged to study privately and routinely participate in District and Statewide competitions and adjudications.
