Cartoons, Controlled Variables and Critical Thinking!

Shelby Fontana
Fifth-grade scientists sharpened their investigative skills by analyzing funny cartoon scenarios to identify independent, dependent, and controlled variables. Using humor as a hook, students discussed how each variable influenced the outcome of an experiment and why controlling certain factors is essential for reliable results. This engaging activity sparked thoughtful conversation and helped students connect abstract scientific concepts to clear, memorable examples. The lesson was part of a broader discussion on best practices in conducting strong and fair scientific investigations.
