SES Sophomore Wins National Weightlifting Title

Rome Barker, a 10th grader and member of the SES weightlifting team, competed at the USAW National Championships in Colorado Springs this June and claimed the title of National Champion in the U15 52kg weight class! After qualifying for the FHSAA State Championships this past April as a freshman, Rome continued training with the local USAW club, Vero Beach Weightlifting. At Nationals, he hit personal bests with a 121lb snatch (up 11lbs from April) and a 154lb clean and jerk (up 14lbs), improving his total by an impressive 25lbs. Way to go, Rome!
