Students Present Lagoon Research to Indian River Lagoon Council

SES seniors Matthew Vatland, Merrit Kennedy and Caitlin Moscrip recently shared their research findings with the Indian River Lagoon Council (IRLC), highlighting the health and future of this vital local ecosystem. The students’ project, funded by an IRLC grant, examined water quality, wildlife, sediment composition and seagrass coverage across six sites, from the SES campus to the Fort Pierce Inlet. Their presentation to the council showcased not only their thorough research but also their passion for improving the lagoon’s health.

With confidence and poise, the trio answered every question from council members, demonstrating a deep understanding of environmental impacts and solutions for the lagoon. Their work impressed the council and served as a powerful example of student-led research contributing to community awareness and conservation. Congratulations to Matthew, Merrit and Caitlin for their outstanding work!
