From Formula 1 to Rockets: Students Build Full-Scale Wind Tunnel

The Physics & Engineering Research Class is building a research-grade wind tunnel to support student research in Formula 1 car design, silent drone and helicopter propeller design, spin-stabilized rocket fin design and other related projects. The students have been conducting extensive research on the wind tunnel for several months and are currently building a full-scale prototype. The prototype will enable students to determine pressure drops and wind speeds in different parts of the wind tunnel, allowing them to modify the design as needed. Students will lead the full engineering process under faculty supervision and utilize the tunnel for projects both in class and for potential use by clubs, such as the Conrad Challenge and other student-run clubs.
