Freedom from Chemical Dependency Training for Parents
SB (lk)
The ASSIST Team is based on a substance abuse prevention model provided by an organization called Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD). Our goal is to provide drug and alcohol prevention education to the student body through large group presentations and small group discussions. We also work with individuals and their family when necessary. A representative from FCD is conducting a full-day training session with us in May to review our programming as well as train our new members on early intervention strategies. The trainer is hosting a parent and family session to provide insights on how to talk with your child about substance prevention, how the on-campus ASSIST Team can help, and give more information about FCD. If your child is in grades 4-12th, please consider joining us. Research shows that early childhood and middle school prevention programming is a great first step in reducing teenage substance use.
The forum is on Thursday, May 16 from 8:15-9:00 a.m. in the Quiet Room of the library.
