Ahoy Pirates!

Mike Mersky
Dear Saint Edward’s School Alumni:

As I pack up the office and home on Ladybug Lane, with plans to depart from Saint Edward’s at the end of the month, events and people are constantly reminding me of how much I have enjoyed being on this Pirate Ship for the past eleven years.  What is not small but large in my mind and in my heart is the way you, the School’s alumni, welcomed me in the spring and summer of 2009 and continued to make me feel like an instant Pirate from the beginning.   The conversations, the lunches, the regional visits, the calls, and the advice you have shared with me, helped guide me during my tenure as Head of School, and those pieces will stay with me, forever.  Karen and I want to send you all our heartfelt thanks for your support for the past eleven years.

However, please know that you are now in excellent hands with Stuart Hirstein and his lovely wife, Mimi, coming on board at the end of June.  Stuart will be our 8th Head of School, and he was my first choice as a candidate when we were in the semi-final round with eight experienced leaders in the field.  He is experienced, knowledgeable, insightful, and indeed humble in terms of his own achievements, which makes for a great independent school leader.  He, the Board of Trustees led by Wendy Porter, and an incredible and experienced Leadership Team will guide this Ship in the years ahead, and I am confident of the very bright future that lies ahead for Saint Edward’s School.

Thanks so much for all of your support throughout the years.  It was my hope and ultimate goal to leave Saint Edward’s in a state of ultimate strength and quality, so that our great School community would be here to serve and support children in our Treasure Coast region for generations to come.  And indeed, our beloved School is set to fulfill that role now and in the future.

Stay well, stay safe and thanks again for all of your support.  Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate!

Sincerely,

Michael J. Mersky
