Chinese Spring Festival Celebrations

The Chinese Language Program in the World Language Department in SES had a new way of celebrating the traditional Chinese Spring Festival under the world pandemic this year. In addition to having a COVID-friendly Chinese New Year lunch from a local Chinese restaurant on Feb. 10  and a brief Lion Dance campus parade on Feb. 11, 2021, each class presented their performances in a unique way. All the students had great fun!

With the help of technical support from Mr. Baker, Mrs. Baker, and Mrs. Jennings, Dr. Bao was able to release some of the celebration performances. The two 5th-grade classes, Class K and Class N did two folk dances, the one shown in the video is called Chun tian zai na li (where is spring?). Chinese 1 class performed Chinese jump rope, a robust and energetic fun fitness group game. Chinese 2H students performed a beautiful song, ting wo shuo xie xie ni (Listen to me say Thank-you). Chinese 3H did an intense chopstick using race. Chinese 4H and Chinese 5H class did a beautiful play, qi xi jie de lai li, to portray how Chinese Valentine's Day came into being.

Here in the video, you will see the singing of the Chinese 2H class. For the celebration activities of the other classes, please see Mrs. Campione's all-school newsletter tomorrow.
