6th Grade English Students Compose Song Lyrics 

Music is incredibly powerful, reaching us on a deep level. In fact, throughout The Pearl, the protagonist associates songs with the strong emotions he is experiencing.  After reading the novella, 6th grade students tuned in to their emotions and composed song lyrics to express their moods.
