Varsity Volleyball Claims 3rd Place Honors in 1st SSAC Tourney

The varsity volleyball team competed in their first Sunshine State Athletic Conference tournament at the Auburndale Community Center in Auburndale, starting on 10/8/21.

In the quarterfinal round, the Lady Pirates faced off against All Saints Academy. The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Saints in straight sets: 25-13, 30-28, 25-17. Sophomore Meagan Baker recorded blocks and 6 kills, while sophomore Kelly Barnett earned 4 blocks and 5 kills. Sophomore Elliotte Kahler led in assists with 25, and senior Alexa Soderman led the Lady Pirates in kills with 12. Contributing 4 aces apiece were senior Ellie Schrock, Soderman, and Kahler. Rounding out the night for the Lady Pirates, Schrock tallied 13 digs and Soderman collected 9.

For the semifinal round, the Lady Pirates took on Harvest Community School. Though they were down the first set 11-25, the Lady Pirates rallied back to take the second and third sets: 25-23, 25-20.  Despite losing the last two sets (17-25, 12-25), the entire Lady Pirates team never wavered in their determination on the court.

In the consolation round, the Lady Pirates faced All Saints Academy in a rematch to claim 3rd place honors. In an amazing back and forth battle on the court, the Lady Pirates ultimately declared victory over the Lady Saints in 5 hard-fought sets: 23-25, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 15-9. Scoreboard highlights for the Lady Pirates include Soderman with 4 aces, 11 digs, and 24 kills; Kahler with 32 assists; Schrock with 13 digs; and Baker with 10 blocks.
