The Roaring 20's Come to Life for US Language and Composition Students
Through these presentations, 11H and AP Language and Composition students immersed themselves in the historical and cultural contexts of the 1920s to better understand how these elements shaped the rhetorical situation of Fitzgerald's writing and heavily influenced his themes. Topics included the biography of F. Scott Fitzgerald; Art & Architecture of the 1920s; the Roaring 20s; the Harlem Renaissance and Jazz Age; Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, Flappers, and the Women's Liberation Movement; Prohibition and Gangsters; and the American Dream and Great Depression. Mrs. Cooksey was instrumental in designing a LibGuide with dozens of resources from Gale, Brittanica, and JSTOR, so students also practiced the collaborative research processes they'll be expected to use again in college.
