On Wednesday, March 23 the School held a tornado drill as part of the safety protocols on campus. Surprisingly, Florida ranks third in the nation for total number of tornadoes annually. The students and teachers did a great job following the rules that were shared in advance, but as the weather warms and we begin to see those late afternoon storms, there are some important rules for parents and other drivers as well.
If you are waiting in the LS loop to pick up your child and you hear a tornado warning, please exit your car and seek shelter inside the school. The student locker room on the first floor is a safe space.
If you are waiting at the library loop, exit your car and proceed to Oglethorpe Hall. There are two bathrooms as well as an adjacent kitchen that are safe spaces.
If a warning occurs right before the end of the school day, students will remain in safe spaces until the warning is lifted. If you have not arrived at school, remain at home in a safe space until the warning is lifted.
As with any emergency, the School will keep you informed via text, email and voicemail as the situation evolves. Thank you in advance for your compliance with these protocols.
