2025 High School Scholar-Athlete Award Winners Announced

On Monday, May 5, at the McAlpin Fine Arts Center at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, seniors Patrick MacMullan and Sommer Soderman were recognized at the 12th Annual E. Michael Stutzke High School Scholar-Athlete Awards banquet sponsored by the Play Treasure Coast Sports Commission. The organization seeks to recognize one male and one female recipient from all public and private schools across the Treasure Coast, and nominees for this award must be scholar-athletes who demonstrate leadership skills, exhibit strength of character and serve as role models for others on and off the playing field.

MacMullan, as a multisport athlete, made his mark in football, soccer, track and weightlifting throughout his upper school athletic career at Saint Edward's. For football, he was selected SSAA South First Team All-State (TE) and Honorable Mention (DE) and was chosen as TC Palm's All-Area Honorable Mention (DE), to name a few of his athletic achievements. Off the field, he excelled academically in the classroom, including being named an AP Scholar with Distinction, and was an active member of the Spanish Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. His community service involvement includes Flag the Lawn (founder), Movember (participant, co-president for 2 years), and Habitat for Humanity.

Another versatile multi-sport athlete, Soderman's contributions to the classroom were as impactful as her contributions to the playing field, and she was the recipient of the Paul Hermansen Scholarship and Peter B. Benedict Scholarship. During her athletic career at Saint Edward's, she took part in the varsity girls basketball team, which was recognized as the FHSAA Academic Team Champions for Class 2A in Winter 2021-22; and she was also a member of the varsity volleyball team, which was named the FHSAA Academic Team Champions for Class 1A in Fall 2024. In her free time, her passion has been volunteering at multiple local animal shelters, performing whatever tasks are needed, and she has been vocal about encouraging others to volunteer for this worthy cause.
