Kristi Beckett in Spotlight

5th grader Kristi Beckett was selected to appear on Young Musicians Spotlight which will air on National Public Radio's affiliate station WQCS in Fort Pierce. Kristi sang Part of Your World from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. This is the second time Kristi has been chosen to appear on the program.

Public radio WQCS / 88.9 FM will be hosting 24 music students on its annual broadcast presentation of Young Musicians Spotlight.

The one-hour radio special will be broadcast on Monday, May 21 at 2 p.m., followed by an encore presentation on Monday, May 28 at 8 p.m., both on WQCS and on HD1. The radio special will be repeated on Sunday, May 27 at 1 p.m. on the HD2 channel, which is accessible at wqcs.org.

Janie Gould, host of WQCS’s Floridays program each Friday morning at 7:20 a.m. and at 6:01 p.m., will host the Young Musicians Spotlight this year. Students participating in auditions at the WQCS Studios in April were invited to perform classical music, Broadway and jazz compositions.

From West Palm Beach to Vero Beach, students performed on piano, strings, brass and vocals, with one jazz ensemble and a string Chamber music quartet. Performing on piano will be: Paige D. Banks of Stuart, Julia DeMott of Port St. Lucie, Michael McBride of Stuart, Geoffrey Zheng of Port St. Lucie, Sarah Stewart of Stuart, Zuyi Zhao of Palm City and Hannah Geisinger of Sewall’s Point.

String performers will be Lauren Douglas, Hannah Geisinger, Jose Kropp, and Kalia Geisinger, with brass performances by Tanner Dashner, Noah Graben, and Luke Horger. Vocalists in the radio special will be Kristi Beckett and Madison Reynolds. Luke DiSandro will perform on percussion.

The Fellowship of Strings, a quartet, will include Alexa Sophia Lora, Nathan Joiner, Arianna Joiner and Victoria R. Phen. The jazz trio from Indian River Charter School includes Brylon Terry, Kacy Carvajal and Danielle Harris.

WQCS has coordinated Young Musicians Spotlight for 18 years, featuring the music and vocal talents of area students, under 21 years of age. Students who have performed on the radio show have attended Juilliard School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, the Interlochen Music Camp and other national music programs. Several years ago, one Jupiter student appeared on npr’s From The Top, a national program featuring student performances.
