Varsity Girls Basketball Runners-up in Class 4A at SSAA Tourney
The varsity girls basketball team traveled to the AdventHealth Fieldhouse and Conference Center in Winter Haven recently to participate in the Class 4A Sunshine State Athletic Association tournament. On 1/17/25, the Pirates took on Harvest Community School for their playoff game. The Pirates led 15-8 at halftime, and the team continued to hold back the Warriors in the 2nd half to secure their spot in the championship game with their 29-26 victory. Scoring points for the Pirates were Avonti Jennings - 8, Amajyn Cannon - 7, Anastasia Headley - 4, Adterria Holloway - 2, Nahlia Hebig - 2, Tirzah Boulding - 2, Gaby Collazo - 2, and Shaniya Bryant - 2.
The Pirates faced off against Merritt Island Christian on 1/18/25 for the Championship game. The Pirates tied the Cougars 10-10 in the 1st half but fell 13-23 going into halftime. The Pirates fought hard on the court but were unable to gain their footing and were overcome by their opponents 39-52. Cannon and Jennings led the scorers with 14 points apiece. Collazo netted 9 points, and Sommer Soderman nabbed 2.
Next game is at home on 1/21/25 versus Port St. Lucie High School, starting at 5:00 PM in the Gonzalez-Lobo Activities Center.
