Saint Edward's School recently played host to the 8th Annual D5 Alive Tournament, in which the varsity girls basketball team took part. On 1/24/25, the determined Pirates competed against Tradition Preparatory High School in the Gonzalez-Lobo Activities Center. The Pirates took an early lead against their opponents, running away with the victory 38-20. Avonti Jennings led the scorers with 13 points, followed closely by Amajyn Cannon with 12. Gaby Collazo netted 7 points toward the Pirates' win, and Tirzah Boulding collected 3 points. Halle Grella recorded 2 points, and Nahlia Hebig chipped in 1.
In the championship game on 1/25/25, the Pirates faced Atlantic Christian Academy for the trophy. Despite being down 6-7 to the Sharks at the end of the 1st quarter, the Pirates rallied to tie the score 14-14 going into halftime. The Pirates fell behind 19-25 at the end of the 3rd quarter but found their footing in the 4th quarter to pass up the Sharks 35-30 and secure the win. Leading the scoreboard was Jennings with 18 points. Cannon sank 7 points, and teammates Collazo and Sommer Soderman put up 4 points apiece. Shaniya Bryant rounded out the successful day with 2 points.
Next game is at home on 1/28/25 versus Odyssey Charter School, starting at 6:00 PM in the Gonzalez-Lobo Activities Center.
