Varsity Track & Field Opens Season at Viera Meet

On 2/21/25, the varsity track and field team opened their season at an invitational meet held by Viera High School of Viera. The Pirates, eager to show off their skills in their events, set 6 new school records and several new personal records. The girls finished in 5th place with 78 points, and the boys finished in 6th place with 24 points.

On the track, the girls 4x800m Relay team of Cadence Callaghan, Sophie Cooper, Stephanie Storts, and Jacquelyn Perrin broke the school record by 27 seconds, finishing in 1st place at 10:59.17. Newcomer Callaghan also ran the 400m Hurdles, capturing 2nd place and breaking the school record with a 1:21.18. The 4x100m Relay team of Callaghan, Tajani Gayle, Lilly Jensen, and Mia Perez finished 4th place at 55.43. In the 1600m, J. Perrin finished 5th with a personal record of 5:58.53, and Storts placed 8th at 6:13.00. J. Perrin also placed 5th in the 800m (2:48.05), and Jensen placed 6th in the 200m (28.76). Storts finished in 7th place in the 3200m with 13:57.03, and Audrey Elliott set a personal record in the 100m with 14.96.

In field events, Mia Perez finished 1 place in both Discus (25.60m) and Javelin (26.0m) for the girls team. Making her track debut, Jaida Jackson finished 4th place in Shot Put with 7.42m and 3rd place in Discus with 23.59m. In the jumping pit, newcomer Jensen broke the school record in her first meet with a jump of 4.39m to place 5th in the Long Jump. Nahlia Hebig finished 7th place in the Long Jump with 2.20m, and Milani Perez set a personal record in the Long Jump with 3.80m.

For the boys team, Jack Curley, who set personal records in all 4 of his events at this meet, finished 2nd in Javelin and broke his own school record, breaking the 20m mark with his 40.21m throw. Curley finished 6th in the 1600m with his personal record time of 4:49.36 and finished 8th place in the 800m with 2:15.33. Matthew Cocks placed 5th in Discus with 25.76m and set a personal record of 27.78 in the 200m. Jamin Dunham set a personal record in the 1600m with 5:30.41. In the boys relays, the 4x800 Relay team of Spencer Taft, Aiden Bryant, Chris Perrin, and Cam Perrin broke the boys' record by 39 seconds to finish 4th place at 10:21.55. The boys 4x400m Relay team of Nicky Colontrelle, Jay Leibik, Taft, and Curley obliterated the previous school record for this event by 36 seconds with a 3:54.61.
