Regional Results Are in for Varsity Track & Field
On 5/3/25, the varsity track and field qualifiers made their way to the Class 1A Region 4 Tournament at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale. The Pirates gave it their all at Regionals, with many setting new personal records in their events. The girls team placed 17th overall with 12 points, and the boys team finished 15th overall with 13 points.
For the girls team, Jacquelyn Perrin, who was seeded 4th in the 800m, had a thrilling race, surpassing her opponent in the final bend to capture a 2nd place finish and automatically qualify for States. Posting a 2:23.16 time in this event, Perrin not only set a new school record but also is now ranked 7th statewide in the girls 800m in Class 1A. Sophie Cooper finished the 3200m with a new personal record time of 13:26.03 to earn 12th place. In the 400 Hurdles, Cadence Callaghan placed 11th with a personal best time of 1:15.40, and Nahlia Hebig finished 14th with 1:18.83, also a personal best. In the 4x800 girls relay event, Callaghan, Cooper, Perrin, and Stephanie Storts ran their best race of the season, finishing in 4th with a school record-setting time of 10:28.68. In the 4x400 relay, Callaghan, Hebig, Perrin, and Cooper finished in 9th place with 4:57.46. In her field event, Hebig finished 15th in the Long Jump with her mark of 4.19m.
In the boys track events, Jack Curley secured a 4th place finish in the 3200m with 10:02.67 to set a new personal record and finished in 6th place in the 1600m at 4:34.53, another personal record. Jamin Dunham finished in 14th place in the 3200m at 11:05.28, and Jay Leibik placed 14th in the 800m with 2:19.02. Nicky Colontrelle finished 16th in the 400m Hurdles with 1:13.49. In the 4x800 boys relay, Colontrelle, Leibik, Spencer Taft, and Curley broke their own record by 19 seconds with an 8:44.01 finish. The relay team placed 5th in their event and received an at-large bid for the State Championship. In his field event, Colontrelle placed 18th in the Triple Jump with his 10.89m mark.
