ABC Day and the Class of 2025

Last Friday, one of the most beloved traditions at Saint Edward’s School occurred: Anything but Cars (ABC Day), and the seniors last day. The Class of 2025, like so many before them, came ready to soak anyone within a close distance, and even those who were a safe distance away (or so they thought — just ask Elizabeth Sorensen '97).

The class then transitioned to their senior breakfast, where Angela Waldrop '98 addressed the class as future alumni. She spoke of the importance of giving back and how important the alumni are to Saint Edward’s.

The final senior assembly was held in the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts. The yearbook was revealed, and Angie Stalquist spoke of the design work and all of the thought that went into the 50th edition of the Crow’s Nest. We then bid farwell to Stan Greenlee, Betsy Wengler, Marcy Sharman and Jeff Lamscha. The 2025 yearbook was then dedicated to Kelly Hudson, who spoke of her passion for Saint Edward’s and the family feel she has felt here since 2000, when she started at SES. Finally, one of my favorite traditions is when Michele Sternberg and Jack MacMullan stand up to read the advice some of our seniors gave to their senior buddies when they were first graders at Saint Edward’s. It is always good for a few laughs.

Finally, the morning ends with the seniors last walk through the hallways, which are lined with students, faculty and parents. There are plenty of hugs, tears, pats on the back and thank yous. It is really an emotional walk, and one can see firsthand how much of an impact this place and our people have had on the lives of the members of the Class of 2025.

Traditions are important at Saint Edward’s because they create a shared sense of identity, belonging and continuity across generations of students, faculty and families. These shared experiences often become some of the most cherished memories of school life. They can shape how alumni remember and speak about their time at the school for years to come.

I am so proud of our seniors and wish them the very best as they start this new chapter in their young journey. I told them at breakfast that we really want them to come back and visit when they have a chance. I know their teachers are interested in hearing how they are doing and look forward to hearing about their transition to college life.

I look forward to seeing you around campus.
