Seventh Graders Make Personal Coat of Arms

Rikki Bischoff (lk)
From MS faculty Rikki Bischoff: Before finishing our unit on Feudalism, the seventh graders created their own personal coat of arms. Coat of arms were historically used by knights in battle during the Middle Ages and continued to represent notable families and clans. While learning about their own family shields and researching heraldic symbols in history, the students created a more personal shield, including colors, symbols and a personal motto. This was a more personal project and required the students to take a closer look at what characteristics represent them while researching the historical meaning of each symbol. They had a lot of fun presenting and sharing their shields with the class!
