Message from the Athletic Director

However, there is important information that you all also need to know regarding basketball.  We only have one available gym this year to accommodate 6 MS and US teams, and we have about 40 boys and girls 6th-8th grade signed up to play basketball.  For safety reasons and space availability, we cannot have both MS boys and girls practicing at the same time.  Therefore, practices will not be every day.  Coach Zugrave has spent a lot of time looking at when the WAC is open and utilizing the outdoor court.  We have come up with the best possible solution to try and accommodate each team, including the US teams.   As of right now, in general, the boys will practice every Monday and Wednesday, the girls on Tuesday and Thursday.  A schedule will go out weekly about practices and include games when the games begin in November.  There will be times during the year where a team will practice on Friday or not their designated day, and the weekly schedule will have these corrections.

 

In addition, due to Covid many schools that have played in the past either aren’t having teams or are restricted in travel.  Therefore, our schedules will be very limited this year and are being updated by Mrs. Miller and are on the web. I hope to add more games, but the number of games will be much less than in the past.

 

Due to the high numbers of boy players, we also need to adjust the size of the teams.  The coaches will divide up the 7th-8th grade players into 2 squads, designated ‘Grey” and “Blue”.  Each squad will have the same number of games.  The 6th-grade boys will have 4 games and a separate team, but will still practice with the 7th and 8th graders.  The girls will be a combined 6th, 7th and 8th-grade team. If the girls numbers are as large as the boys, we may have to divide the girls into squads as well.  Currently, there are no other schools with strictly 6th-grade girls teams.
