Varsity Girls Basketball Takes 3rd in D5 Alive Tourney

The varsity girls basketball participated in the recent 2-day D5 Alive Tournament in the Gonzazlez-Lobo Activities Center. The Pirates first faced off against The Benjamin School on 1/26/24. Taking a 5-point lead into halftime, the Pirates overcame a 3rd lead change to yet again pull ahead of the Buccaneers. The close game ended in heartbreak for the Pirates as they lost 39-40 to the Buccaneers.

Dhanika Perez led the scoreboard with 10 points, followed closely by Chase Nelson with 9. Gaby Collazo and Meagan Baker each netted 6, and teammates Sommer Soderman and Avonti Jennings recorded 4 points apiece.

In the consolation game on 1/27/24, the determined Pirates took on Calvary Christian Academy in the Gonzalez-Lobo Activities Center. The Pirates started the game hot and took a 17-2 lead after the 1st quarter. Solid play in the 2nd quarter by the Pirates ensured a 24-7 lead at halftime. Never looking back, the Pirates finished their last home game of the season strong with a 51-25 victory over the Panthers.

Nelson led the scorers with 12 points, followed closely by Perez with 10 and Jennings with 9. Teammates Collazo and Tirzh Boulding sank 8 points apiece, and Soderman and Baker added 2 points each.
 
Next game is away on 1/30/24 at John Carroll Catholic High School in Fort Pierce, starting at 5:30 PM.
