Varsity Boys Basketball Faces Heartbreak in Double OT District Semi Against MIC

The varsity boys basketball team traveled to Merritt Island Christian School in Merritt Island on 2/8/24 for their Class 2A District 13 Semifinal game. Despite being down 20-24 at the end of the first half, the Pirates rallied against the Cougars in the 2nd quarter to trail only by 1 point going into halftime.  The game of back-and-forth on the court saw the Pirates down 48-51 at the end of the 3rd quarter. With little time left to go in the 4th quarter, Sean Stalheber made a beautiful 3-point shot to bring the Pirates within 1 point. Stalheber then sank a free throw to put the 62-62 game into overtime.

In overtime, the Pirates continued to answer the Cougars' baskets, with Wes Nobile's 2-point shot and free throw allowing the Pirates to push ahead 65-64. A 2-point field goal by teammate Gary Anderson nudged the Pirates further ahead at 67-65. The Cougars bounced back to tie the score 67-67 by the end of the 1st overtime.

Stalheber got off the first successful shot at the beginning of the 2nd overtime, allowing the Pirates to lead 70-67. The determined Cougars caught up with the Pirates to tie the thrilling game 70-70. With less than a minute to go, the Cougars sank a 2-point shot to move ahead of the Pirates and secure the game 72-70.
