Varsity Track & Field Sees Success at Bill Wilson Invite

The varsity track and field team competed in the Bill Wilson Invitational hosted by Sebastian River High School in Sebastian in their last meet before departing for Spring Break. The two-day event began on 3/8/24, with Marlo Wilkerson, Riley Wilkerson, and Kamara Simon competing in the Long Jump. Both Simon and R. Wilkerson set personal records in the event. Matthew Cocks saw some great throws in Discus. On the track, Jack Curley and Jamin Dunham hit huge personal records in the 3200m, with Curley dropping 30 seconds for 11:22.73 to place 7th and Dunham dropping 20 seconds for 12:22.21 to place 9th. Teammate Hartley Postlethwaite raced his first 3200m and handled it in stride.

Day 2 on 3/9/24 saw the return of Simon to the competition, and she hit a personal record in the 400m by 10 seconds and ran her first 200m. Milani Perez also competed in her first 100m and set a personal record in the 200m. Hitting personal records in both the 100m and 200m was Audrey Elliott. Christian Peter dropped almost 30 seconds in his 800m, and Dunham and Postlethwaite ran strong in the 1600m in a competitive high school field.

Scoring points for the girls team to help the Pirates finish 7th place out of 14 teams were Elizabeth Campbell and Jacquelyn Perrin. Campbell captured a 1st place finish in the 800m with a 2:36.31 finish and secured 6th place in the 400m. Perrin hit a personal record in the 800m to place 9th and drop 3 seconds for a 2:50.20. The big highlight of day 2 was Campbell's and Perrin's 1st and 2nd place finishes respectively in the 2000m Steeplechase, with both of their times breaking the school record and Campbell's 8:38.78 going on the record board.
 
Next meet is away on 3/22/24 at South Fork High School in Stuart, starting at 4:00 PM.
